Odin is a Windows-based ROM flashing tool for Samsung smartphones and tablets.
This is the most popular tool which is used to flash custom ROMs, Official OTA Updates, kernels and other similar files manually on Samsung devices. Odin recognizes files having .tar / .tar.md5 extensions, while it doesn't support the .zip files, so its rare to flash Custom ROMs with Odin that comes in .zip format. Custom kernels provided by developers such as the most popular Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root kernels comes in .tar format and you can flash it using Odin, as it enables you to get the root access over Samsung devices.
If you want to use Odin to flash leaked stock Samsung firmwares based on all Android operating system versions then you'll required first to enable the USB Debugging in Developer Options and install Samsung USB drivers for your device on the PC. Once the Odin flashing tool is downloaded on the PC, then extract the .zip file and run Odin.exe as Administrator
