A Biography about Bear is Set to be Released on November 15th.
Author Robert Greenfield has a new biography coming out about one of the most beloved and mysterious figures in Grateful Dead lore. Bear: The Life and Times of Augustus Owsley Stanley III featuring stories from the members of the Dead is set to be released on November 15th.
To say, “Bear kept to himself” would be a huge understatement. He was as reclusive as one could get and still be famous. Only in the magical world of the 60’s and The Grateful Dead could such a wonderful human exist. I suppose enough time has passed since Bear died that his inner circle was ready to talk about the real man and not just the legend. I can't wait to read and see if all those legendary stories were real and find about many more that never got out. He was an innovator in everything he did. Whether is was being the first to make SBD recordings of the Grateful Dead to building the Wall of Sound or being the first private individual to mass produce the LSD that provided the fuel for an entire movement and made up the names that still resonate today; such as "Orange Sunshine", "Purple Haze", and "Blue Cheer".
This author also penned Exile on Main St.:A Season in Hell with the Rolling Stones and Dark Star: An Oral History Of Jerry Garcia, two other fabulous books, that are necessary reading for music fans. I can not wait to get my paws on this book. To pre-order your copy, go here.
