The Legendary Newport Jazz Festival have announced the first wave of artists.
One of the most recognized names in music festivals will take place August 4-6 at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island. The Newport Jazz Festival also released the beginning of this year's talent this historic festival will offer this year. The celebrated festival is off to a good start with Bela Fleck & The Flecktones, Snarky Puppy and a supergroup titled Hudson. This band consists of John Scofield, John Medeski, Larry Grenadiar and Jack DeJohnette and has me drooling at the potential of that band alone. Referred to as a Mecca of jazz, the Newport Jazz Festival draws thousands of people from all over the world to Newport, Rhode Island, a city which is famed in its spectacular coastal scenery and awe-inspiring architecture. The Newport festival, started in 1954, and was the first jazz festival in America and has been the stage for legendary performances from artist the likes of: Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane and Miles Davis; as well at the stage for the major debuts of artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Diana Krall, Joshua Redman and Esperanza Spalding.
