SpiritSphere - Pong meets Zelda in this rather lovely Indie game
Earlier last week Eendhoorn released the competitive local multiplayer game ' SpiritSphere ' for the PC. It looks to have a number of inspirations from classic games such as Pong, Zelda and even Windjammers while mixing them up to create something rather unique and enjoyable to play. Featuring an 8-bit art style that sticks closely to the NES colour palette and a great soundtrack by Gas1312,

BS The Legend of Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets - An Obscure Zelda game gets a BIG translation and more!
What an incredible end to the week especially for Zelda fans across the globe, as BS Zelda no Densetsu, also known as 'BS The Legend of Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets', has received a full English dub restoration. If you've never heard of the game, which until today included me, it was a score attack version of 'A Link to the Past', featuring high quality CD music and voices, but had to be

Cat Quest - In development Atari 2600 homebrew looks to impress
With all the games that come and go through Indie Retro News, there's always one that amazes us. This is especially true of ' Cat Quest ' developed for the Atari 2600 by Alp, which started as an idea to port a cancelled NES game of his to the Atari 2600, just for fun. Currently at an early work in progress state, Cat Quest uses a ' Venetian Blinds ' Interlacing Technique that according to him,

Legend of Xenia - Charming little free Zelda style game
A bit of a late one this for a gaming article, but as it is Zelda inspired, I see no reason not to give it the attention it deserves. The game I'm going to talk about is ' Legend of Xenia ' developed by Baku for the #LOWREZJAM 2016. Which as you guessed it, is a retro-inspired game but with an open-world and game play style similar to Zelda, but with a tiny resolution of just 64x64 pixels. Oh

TLoZ 2.5 Classic + Koten 1.3 - Special Friday news - Classic Zelda remake!
Have I got a very special retro gaming news for you, especially if you're a massive fan of the game Zelda. As Anthus has released the full, un-passworded, forkable remake of the first 1986 Legend of Zelda game, including both quests, with 2.5 tileset and Koten's tileset for more modern computers. This is 100% NES authentic, save for some new tiles and animations from the Zelda classic 2.5 set.

Shipwreck - Bit of a Zelda fan? You might enjoy this one!
I thought to myself today it's been awhile since we had any Zelda style games on Indie Retro News, but thankfully I came across one that doesn't look half bad and it is only priced at $2.99. Welcome to ' Shipwreck ' by Bushfire Games; a top down adventure game in which you must travel the land, explore dungeons, and defeat monsters to earn safe passage off the island on which you are stranded!

This is ' Oubliette ' by James Wilkinson; a brand new Amiga game that has been in development for the last few weeks and has only since been uploaded to Aminet. According to the developer this game is an 8-bit randomised dungeon crawler with lots of sword slashing, fireballs
