Dead and Company Create Magic at the Majestic Gorge. A Review andSetlist

Dead and Company Create Magic at the Majestic Gorge.

It is a shame this tour is ending after one more show. It's easily been the surprise of the summer, if not the most consistent band in all of the land.  Saturday nigh,t they took the carnival to the historic and awe inspiring Gorge and wasted no time getting loose as they blasted into two traditional openers. An inspiring"Touch Of Grey" got the crowd on their feet and singing. The rousing "Hell in a Bucket" that followed was just plain dirty as the band was firing on every possible cylinder. The perfect first set followed as all this author's favorites were played with purpose, for the remainder of the first half. The band filled the dry air with beautiful versions of, "Dire Wolf","Ramble On Rose"and "Brown Eyed Women". While a jam heavy "Cassidy" covered some interesting territory, Oteil pushed the band's comfort zone to great ends. "One More Saturday Night" closed this immaculate set.
The set break took a little longer than usual but the smiling faces did not seem to mind as they took in the views and all the good company. The band took the stage and promptly launched into an expansive "Eyes of the World". This adventurous second set had surprise song placements but worked just as same. Each song from "Cumberland Blues" to the funky "Shakedown Street" that bled into Drums and space was played with extra mustard and kept the sea of color moving. A touching "Wharf Rat" gave way to the sing a long anthem "Casey Jones" to end another peach of a show. "Knocking on Heaven's Door" sent the masses to their campground with smiles.
