For Today's 30 for 30 Grateful Dead Shows, Grateful Music brings you the "Dark Star of "Dark Stars". This show is a classic must-have, 11-11-73.

This show has one of the meatiest, most beautiful and exploratory second half's that includes two of the greatest "Dark Star" and "Eyes of the World" versions ever played. This show is a must-have and is a classic from one of the band's best years.
This show has been one of my favorite shows for a long time. The massive first set is just one reason. Bobby started off sounding a little rough but soon found his footing. The first set is so full of grateful goodness that anything that I say is just wasted breath.
John Scott from Deadbase called this the "thinking man's 'Dark Star'".This is one of the best of 73' and therefore one of the best ever.  The jam goes through so many phases of cosmic interplay to dissonance to smooth spacey goodness that it has to top the chart with any real deadhead. The way it melts into "Eyes of the World" from the MLB jam is magic. The next tune up is Eyes and it is one of the most face-melting Eyes ever played. I will put it up against any Eyes from 77 or any other year. The way it goes through it's changes are simply amazing. Then to follow it up with a heartfelt "China Doll" is just magical.
This show is easily one of my desert island discs and I'm considering 8/17/72,6/16/74, and the 5/7-9/77 run. This also has one of the hottest "China>Rider"'s that I've heard. It was probably the turning point of the show. And I feel like I should send a special shout out to the "EL Paso" that Bobby's voice came back for and Jerry played his heart out on this smoking Texas story. For the encore, it sounds like Jerry was touched by angels as Bobby was trying to say good night, and Jerry broke into "And I Bid You Goodnight" Either way, if I go into each song, we'll be here forever. LISTEN TO THIS SHOW!
