Bob Weir returns in Superhero like fashion,  while leading the band through two amazing sets. Dead with Cheese ended the event heroically. Setlists & 411

 

   Los Muertos con Queso came to an epic conclusion on Saturday night. Bob Weir returned to perform two powerhouse sets with Billy and his new project. Bob missed Friday nights show with food poisoning and Jackie Greene filled in. 

    String Cheese Incident started the last night off with two sets of amazing music. "Search" kicked off four magical sets by two bands in paradise. Life does not get much better than it was for the lucky fans on the beach on Saturday. Bobby returned  with the fitting opener "Playing in the Band"into "Terrapin Station". That is how the two guest filled sets went. Anthem after jewels into "Brother Essa". The destination concert ended like all events in life should with a "Brokedown Palace". I hope this band gets another chance to shine. I heard a good bit of the streams and color me impressed. The long strange trip just added another musical mile.

Today in Grateful Dead History, They Busted Out Some Songs that Became All Time Classics. AUD link to archive.org

Today back in 1970 at the Fillmore West, several songs were played for the first time that became standards and are known by even the most lackadaisical deadhead.

 

There is a decent audio copy on archive and it's listenable but what really makes this show special is the appearance of several new songs. At this show is the first ever "Truckin'", the first "Operator", as well as the first "Brokedown Palace" and the first "Ripple" for god's sake! To me, that makes this show historic. Add a smoking "It's a Man's Man' World to a hot "Dancing in the Streets" and a good "Other One" and you have a hot show. The AUD source is listenable, especially for the time.  This was the time of the Acoustic, NRPS, Electric sets.  In fact, I think it's a pretty good AUD tape.

So this is more historical than a smoking show but if you want to hear the first Ripple and Brokedown as well as Operator and Truckin' this is the show.
