   Los Muertos con Queso came to an epic conclusion on Saturday night. Bob Weir returned to perform two powerhouse sets with Billy and his new project. Bob missed Friday nights show with food poisoning and Jackie Greene filled in. 

    String Cheese Incident started the last night off with two sets of amazing music. "Search" kicked off four magical sets by two bands in paradise. Life does not get much better than it was for the lucky fans on the beach on Saturday. Bobby returned  with the fitting opener "Playing in the Band"into "Terrapin Station". That is how the two guest filled sets went. Anthem after jewels into "Brother Essa". The destination concert ended like all events in life should with a "Brokedown Palace". I hope this band gets another chance to shine. I heard a good bit of the streams and color me impressed. The long strange trip just added another musical mile.

    Finding out the cause of how Butch Trucks passed away broke my heart. The mental anguish and pain he must have been suffering through on a daily basis while bringing so many joy instantly brings a tear to my eye. I suffer with depression and over my lifetime a shit ton of problems. I do not pretend to understand Butch's pain, I only mention it because its 2017 and there is still a stigma around mental illness. Get over it and shine some empathy on a brother or a friend. I am glad Butch finally has peace.

One day in 1997, two Dead Head musicians were ruminating about life without
Jerry Garcia and simultaneously came up with the same idea: "Let's recreate
a Grateful Dead show."  Around forty people came down to Martyrs' in Chicago
on November 11, 1997, to hear the brand-new Dark Star Orchestra's rendition
of the Dead's show of 10/8/81. They'd planned it as a four-week experiment;
ninety folks showed up the second week, then two hundred, then a 400-person
sell-out.so it seemed like a good idea to keep going.

Since the idea behind the "Orchestra" part of Dark Star Orchestra is that
this is a tribute to a body of music, lots of people have come and gone over
the years-one co-founder, Scott Larned, passed on in 2005, the other, John
Kadlecik, went off to play with the Dead's Phil Lesh & Bob Weir in Furthur.
But DSO keeps rolling, to the point that they've played well over 2,600
shows - 120,000 people in just the past year -- and incredibly enough, are
looking at an approaching 20th anniversary. This calls for celebration.

Like the Dead, DSO has developed an extraordinary relationship with its
audience, and to honor the long strange trip they've shared, DSO will offer,
for the first time at regular shows, beginning with their spring tour, a VIP
Soundcheck and Poster Signing package.  Participants will get exclusive
pre-show access to the venue, a chance to hear the soundcheck, meet the band
and get their 20th anniversary posters signed, a souvenir laminate and
sticker.and more.  Only 25 such tickets will be offered to each show. 

Anyone who has seen - and heard - DSO will tell you this is not a "cover"
band.  It's on a higher level, and you just have to be there to get it.kinda
like the band whose music they play.

  The Los Muertos Con Queso concert event being held in Riviera Maya, Mexico began yesterday with the Chris Robinson's Brotherhood , while Bobby and Billy debuted their new band to rave reviews. Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir and drummer Bill Kreutzmann were joined by W.S.P bassist Dave Schools, JRAD and American Babies guitarist Tom Hamilton and Jeff Chimenti in his usual chair behind the ivory. Beside Grateful Dead staples they played a awe-inspiring tribute to Butch Trucks last night when The Allman Brothers Band’s “Mountain Song” evolved out of Drums into Rev Gary Davis’ staple “Death Don't have No Mercy”. They ended the first night with a fitting double encore of “Liberty” and U.S. Blues. The festivities continue today with two sets of The String Cheese Incident and another performance by the Bobby and Billy band.

Bob Weir is getting the Campfire Band back together for a string of dates in April. The entire band (including Steve Kimock) who backed Bobby for the tour to promote "Blue Mountain" dubbed the Campfire Tour will all return for these dates. The shows span three states and will make an appearance on the famous show "Austin City Limits" from the Moody Theatre. The confirmed dates are below and I have reason to believe they will add more. He will also performe at the Wanee Music Festival.

Bob Weir performed with most of his camp fire band last night in Cincinnati, OH. The only glaring omission was Steve Kimock who is currently in Japan with his amazing band K I M O C K. The show followed the formula from the "Blue Mountain" tour. 

He started the show off acoustic and slowly adds musicians from there. Bobby and the Campfire Band was there for the MusicNOW festival and sounded great. Lisa Hannigan who is scheduled to play at the event joined the band for Peggy-O during the encore. Below is a video and Setlist of last nights festivities.

Bob Weir will play with an adventurous band to celebrate the debut of D'Angelico's signature Bob Weir model guitar. The private concert will be held during the NAMN tradeshow in Los Angeles. His band includes Robert Randolph, Jeff Baxter who played guitar for The Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan, ex Guns & Roses drummer Matt Sorum and The Rascals' multi-intsrumentalist Gene Cornish. The band is coined Bob Weir and Friends and will play January 20th. Unfortunately, this interesting band will play at the VIP party. Which is invite only and is held exclusively for dealers and distributors. Hopefully one of these very important people will include a taper, for this is a night of music that will not be repeated. The mixture of talent and diverse musical backgrounds will make for an intriguing night of music. It could be a train wreck or magic, I am betting a little of both.

Nothing Like a little Jack in your Queso: Jackie Greene Added to the Los Muertos con Queso Festival

  In a move that surprises no one, one more badass is added to the already loaded festival at the Riviera Maya.

The festival is already going to be one of the hottest festivals coming up. Now they've added Jackie just in case the recipe wasn't hot enough for you. The south of the border will see this wonderful festival from January 25-28 and features headline sets from Bob Weir, String Cheese Incident, and the Chris Robinson Brotherhood. Jeff Chimenti and Billy the K will also be playing. Each of them will be joined by their bandmates in Dead and Company. Expect sit ins and all types of shenanigans if you make the trip down Mexico way.

Jackie plays his own solo set on the 27th but somehow I have a feeling it won't be just him. That's the same night that SCI plays two sets. As if the lineup needed any help, Jackie Greene is always a great addition to any lineup. 

Once again, the Los Muertos Con Queso festival runs from the 25th to the 28th of January of next year, so grab tickets now because it's just around the corner.

      A video has surfaced of Warren Haynes tribute to The Band's timeless concert "The Last Waltz" he performed at his 28th annual Christmas Jam. The band consists of bassist Don Was, Terence Higgins keeping time, the legendary chops of John Medeski on keys, along with Michael McDonald, James Johnston and Levee Horns. The set is loaded with special guest ranging  from Bob Weir to Allison Kraus on "The Weight" to original performers of The Last Waltz guitarist Bob Margolin.

Warren Haynes’ 28th Annual Christmas Jam was a Gift for all. The annual benefit raised $2 Million for the Asheville, NC area Habitat for Humanity, fans were given a very special gift from the many spectacular musicians, and amazing collaborations on Friday Dec. 9th and Saturday Dec. 10th…… the musicians clearly were in the giving spirit.  

Twas the night before Christmas Jam, Jammers were arriving from far and near, with hopes that Jam would soon be here. The Orange Peel and WNCW hosted the Pre-Jam show, it kicked off the weekend of gifts for the fans. Warren opened with a Merry “Thank You” and the show began. All the Jammers were nestled all snug in their spots with visions of dancing bears in their thoughts.

Now, Warren Haynes! Now, American Babies! Now, George Porter Jr, Terence Higgins, Eric Krasno and Danny Louis! On, Jamey Johnson and Allison Krauss! On, Marcus King Band! On, Bob Weir and Friends; Holly Bowling, Tom Hamilton, Duane Trucks, and Don Was! On Gov’t Mule and Friends! Now dance away! Dance away! Dance away all! 

  

Saturday night was upon us and The US Cellular Center was stirring, not a frown in the house. Twas no longer the night before Christmas Jam, the day had arrived. The seats were filling by the stage with care, in hopes that Warren and friends soon would be there.The lights on the new-fallen stage show, gave luster to the instruments below. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, but Warren Haynes and a roar of a cheer. Warren reminded us of these gifts and why we are here.

 

So down with the house lights, the Jammers they flew, the stage full of musicians and Warren Haynes too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard in my ear, the sounds of Christmas Jam for the 28th year.

Christmas Jam 2016 provided the fans with some of the best collaborations we have heard. There are many significant call outs; Jamey Johnson and Allison Krauss duet silenced the crowd for 2 nights; Holly Bowling’s magical arrangements on piano where something not often heard; Bob Weir with Warren Haynes, Holly Bowling and Branford Marsalis; Bob Weir and Allison Krauss; The Last Waltz Band with Bob Weir and Allison Krauss; Gov’t Mule, two drummers playing in Grateful Dead style with Paul Riddle (from Marshall Tucker Band) and Duane Trucks for Dreams and Mountain Jam. Needless to say, faces were appropriately melted in Asheville.

 

 

I heard him exclaim, as there was a fade of the lights;  Happy Christmas Jam to all, and to all a good-night!

    Tonight Warren Haynes will host the 28th annual Christmas Jam at the Cellular Center. His 18th edition of the intimate pre-jam at The Orange Peel once again instantly became a classic last night. The line up is always kept secret till showtime. Asshole like myself usual report the acts and always miss the magic. Warren played acoustic and turned in a stellar set with Mule and acts such as Tom Hamilton's American Babies stunned the audience. But Bob Weir and Friends provided the WTF of the night. He was joined on stage with Holly Bowling, Tom(The Future) Hamilton, Duane Trucks and Don Was on the Bass. What took place is better watched because I was not there. I know Warren joined the band as the house sang "We Will Survive" and thanks to evenings like this we will get by. Enjoy the video

        Wanee is about the closet to a sure thing in this ever sucking, shrinking Festival climate. I try and cover the magic of Suwanee every spring. It starts festival season off in such a seductive way. There lineup is always well thought-out and planned according,  so you have a chance playing chose your own adventure and not missing THE set. This year Stevie Wonder would hear the same quality music as anybody's planned day.They always book the perfect formula but it's like they got a raise in band budget or shipped at Walmart. It's taking place in Live Oak, Florida. It may be Spring but bring a coat. Because even April 20-22, the fog of Suwanee still embraces fans when all the Grateful bands conjure. They booked the Jamband Holy Trinity as the headliners. The late bloomer Bob Weir with a stage full of musicians and a Kimock. They are booked as Bob Weir and the campfire boys sealing the title of stupid band names. Widespread Panic and Trey Anastasio. Let's not sleep on a possible spontaneous combustion if you miss that moment. ........... This just in:   The official Wanee website has taken down the 2017 lineup posted and will officially be announced on December 5. They have the decals and poster That actually can only be a a few things and nothing as to do with an act playing. I bet they leaked on purpose:  Usually it's something so trivial like Trey's contract says I get to announce my Tour first. I will have basically the same announcement  in 5 days. Here is the line up a week early.
