The Life of a Ticket Bot Journal Entry "Today was to Cheesy"

The Life of a Ticket Bot
Journal Entry #986768
Star Date 1-13-2017
“Today was to Cheesy”

I was built by my creator and I have only one operating function. My job is to buy as many tickets to any given event as possible. For this I am very misunderstood. Even the President hates me.  My designer must really enjoy all these human gatherings because I have countless co-bots all with the same operating systems. We buy tickets at lighting speed or we get replaced. Lights out! Some days my job is stressful , especially when the outlet selling the tickets does not want my master to attend their events. They set up obstacles to slow my progress or try new tricks to keep me from doing my job. This hurts! Buying these tickets is the only reason I exist and failure is not an option. That is why my master is overjoyed this morning, he must love cheese because we bought all the tickets to attend special intimate shows. They are going to be very exclusive, in fact by my calculations, only my master and his 600 closest friends will attend most shows. For this I am hated on social media and if I was programmed to give a shit, I am sure I would. But I am a simple bot and I do not. Damn it feels good to be a gangster. Ha…..Ha. End Entry

The String Cheese Incident turns in an Incredible Performance over Three Nights that Culminates in an Amazing New Year's Eve Masterpiece. Words by Kevin Long Photos by: Emily Takacs

The String Cheese Incident turns in an Incredible Performance over Three Nights that Culminates in an Amazing New Year's Eve Masterpiece. Words by Kevin Long Photos by: Emily Takacs

The String Cheese Incident performed masterfully as they welcomed the New Year with three hometown shows. In what has become a holiday tradition for S.C.I and their fans, the band has played at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado for five years running.. This run, to my ears’ delight, sounded far superior than years past and the music has not shined this bright in a decade. They blended covers, new material and treasured gems beautifully to produce three amazing, albeit different, shows.

The boys kicked off the festivities with an adventurous “Round the Wheel”. The majority of hesitation anybody had about Kyle’s broken wrist disappeared has the music did not leave another option.

Beside the light-hearted version of “Master Blaster” with Jason on lead vocals the entire first set was the stuff of legend. The “Miss Brown’s Teahouse” into “Rollover” that concluded the initial set of music was mesmerizing. The music bled into a full fledged Star Wars jam honoring the passing of Carrie Fisher.

The second set was a Big Gigantic Incident as the boys were joined by familiar faces Dominic Lalli and Jeremy Salken of “Big Gigantic”. This led to adventurous versions of Cheese classics as the majority of tunes were woven together by Big Gigantic musical hooks. The rollercoaster started on “Bam” and stopped nearly two hours later with an epic “Desert Dawn” that had the tired faithful dancing to the end of a rousing triple encore that began with “Rosie”. S.C.I. made a profound musical statement on the first night of the run and what followed was joyous every bit as genius.

The second night began with an aggressive ”One Step Closer” and the night unfolded like magical 12-30th shows from the past. It had Bust-outs like “When the music over”, “Land’s End” and “Shaking the Tree”. It had a surprising debut in the form of “Nothing but Flowers” by The Talking Heads. Most importantly the band played flawlessly whether Michael Kang shined while delivering his classics or Billy picked his acoustic during “Restless Wind”.

The entire band practiced patience the entire run which led to inspiring improvisation by every member which in turn produced authentic jams. This was on full display during the explosive show the boys delivered on this, the second evening. The crowd piled out of the arena with shit eating grins also knowing we still had another show of our band firing on every cylinder the following evening.

Nobody in the sold out arena had any doubt that the hometown boys would not deliver anything short of a spectacle for New Year's Eve. Whatever brought you to the 1st Bank Center on N.Y.E, S.C.I produced it in spades. The music was breathtaking for three sets, the special effects were explosive, daring and original. Some moments are best seen than explained, so enjoy the official video of the physodelic ball drop.

It was a perfect evening. The elusive “San Jose” started off the holiday in a fitting manner. Over the course of the next five hours the String Cheese Incident delivered a special performance and nothing has sounded sweeter in the new year in a long time. They will be in Mexico in a few weeks and have already announced a spring tour full of intimate venues. The future has not looked this bright for this band in a long time. Happy New Year? Damn Right!

Besides speculating on tour dates he announced multi-instrumentalist Bill Reiflin is returning to the band. Keith Richards turns 152 years old today. The American Dream.

Happy Birthday to the immortal Keith Richards, who turns 152 today( in Keith years. ) The American Dream,  An editorial by Kevin Long.

Happy Birthday to the immortal Keith Richards, who is celerbrating another year of not detoxing ever other month. When he realized it was his actually Birthday, he perked up and replied"I buy if you fly".  I paused for a moment and said you have to be the luckiest addict since Robert Downey JR. "Bloody Hell",  while handing me another pile of cash. I paused and asked ,"you think we need all this extra money for just one more guest"?. His soul vessel then replied, "he is the only guest" and "A bender is not a party". I started to get a bad case of "peek out the window ides " combined with an adventurous but romantic relationship with the shadow people. It was surreal  because I never even met him suddenly I am his personal stash spot. I was overwhelmed with questins and hearing the lunacy led to more confusion. This is one way  orange Hitler steals minds. My morning routine was a familiar sensation. I woke up covered  in chill bumps and sweat.  Just when I let myself believe.............. I woke up with A severe case of "Sobriety". Damn,  cold Turkey is a cruel gift  especially from Keith. It was nice of him to not buy all the drugs in the old folks village.

In breaking news,  Keith Richards is still alive two hours into his celebration. I am a huge "Who fan",   so growing up I was not brave enough to like both bands. It's similar to living in N.Y and rooting for the Mets and Yankees. However, I do love the junky years of The Rolling Stones vast catologue of music. Sister Morphine, Sticky Fingers, Loving Cup are anthems. I am almost convinced it was a dream. A long intense vived one, similar to the night terrors I had when I was sprung on Spice. But it's early and I think Keith left a spoon full of tar for my morning shot. Damn! "Brown Sugar" why you feel so good? Hunter S. Thompson once wrote something to the effect of , "He has not done more drugs than anybody". If he was not such a lightweight I would have him over to the house more often.. I respect the British invasion and fleecing us of our fragile American culture. Why do Americans have to love  " The Stones" and "Jesus". They have way to many amazing times build around this Band.. In my humble opinion,  Keith was just an average addict when you put him next to legends llike Townsend and OX. Musically speaking he is not qualified to be Pete's guitar tech. Keith is wearing  a crown declaring himself" king of intoxication". Real addicts ain't got time or are experienced in arts and crafts. Shit, I bet even that kid Johny Manzil runs out of foil nightly.  Why did Netflix make another documentary glorifing Keith's life of an addict. Besides, if the world knows you are a party god only because you wrote and told us every time you open your mouth. I call Bullshit! That child star that was left "Home Alone" every Christmas while I was growing up. I guess it was a matter of time with all he dealt with in childhood. I will end with a question. If you are a guitar Jedi in one of the biggest bands of all time than why in the hell is your appititite for drugs still the topic of every documentary or discussion? I guess it beats the story of the worst guitarist to ever play in an iconic group. "Happy Birthday Keith"  Don't forget  to tweet how wasted you are tonight. Impossible I have a reputation to think of and I already made the tweet weeks ago & set the timer. I suddenly was overwhelmed with pity & empathy for this rich spoiled old ..... Sorry, it passed! He needs to mix more happy drugs with the trailer park pick up.

High Sierra Music Festival announces impressive line-up and in plenty of time for Money

High Sierra Music Festival announces impressive line-up and in plenty of time for Money.

High Sierra Music Festival is being held on June 29-July 2nd and will return to the friendly confines at Plumas-Sierra Fairgrounds in Quincy, California. They followed the disrupting patterns of festivals announcing the initial line-up before the Holidays which just adds more chaos to the month of madness we call it "The Holiday Season". The reason for all the early announcements combined with the new layaway festival pass or as they refer to as a payment plan. Which means if a fan only sends half the money then it becomes a donation in many circumstances. The answer is plain as orange and green. Fans are not hitting up 3-4 festivals a summer like 7-10 years ago. The new motto is the earlier the better and without Further distractions I give you Ph

Plus more acts are bound to follow and all of these bands are subject to change. Happy Shopping!

Early bird tickets are currently on sale in time for stocking stuffers. The gift that opens in July..........

Umphreys McGee Announces Three Shows for Red Rocks.

Umphreys McGee Announces Three Shows for Red Rocks.

I could not be more excited about the recent announcement that Umphrey's is returning to the Rocks for three glorious nights this summer. There are no scheduling conflicts and more importantly each night's opening acts are stellar. None in my opinion more than "Bruce Hornsby and the NoiseMakers" on July 2nd, to end what sure to be a legendary run. That musical weekend is officially booked in my calendar. I know I will see you there.

Pink Talking Fish is about to owe BMI A Big Phucking Check. An editorial piece. by: Kevin Long

Pink Talking Phish owes BMI A Big Phucking Check. An editorial article while you think piece by Kevin Long

On our Grateful Music Production's YouTube channel we have over seven hundred videos of live performances only one of Pink Talking Fish.  Well, I know it's ok to profit off the ads on most jamband videos. But my only “Pink Talking Fish” clip I had ads on because I considered it under the third-party karaoke rule. I did not think much of the band but you know who are big fans? BMI, the owners of the largest catalog of music in the world. When the internet killed the radio star, BMI couldn't sit around and collect royalties off of other people's' art. BMI needed a plan to find new revenue. It was desperate, ignorant and was doomed to fail. They decided to come after music clubs that charged an admission for live music in the past. Invented some formula to put a price tag on 20 years of unpaid royalties and literally sued clubs for millions. The kicker is those clubs had young bands or weekend rock stars who besides providing entertainment they inadvertently gave free advertising due to they mainly played hit songs and were paid in for free beer and peanuts. Any head knows you can't bleed blood from a turnip and most clubs closed. The High Tone and Newbies come to mine in Memphis. You ever wonder why a twenty minute "Rock n Roll" used to be labeled on LivePhish.com as being less than 10 minutes and it became the Greek Theater Jam or whatever the venue was during the 14 minutes of bliss? BMI charges by the minute. So get ready Pink Talking Fish, because it's about time to lawyer up.

They have no shame or understanding of anything but money. They actually came after Beale Street where Rock and Roll was invented because a white man sang the blues. The irony being Elvis did not write one song but atleast he credited the artist. The home of rock n roll was about to be in financial ruin by the same tradition that gave birth to the music itself. It was insanity and scared a city that relies on the "Smokestack Lightning's" and "The Thrill is Gone" that bring in big overseas tourist dollars. The W.C. Handy Blues Foundation made a political deal (code for bribe, down south) to save all the historic clubs. They volunteered to pay money only on "Mustang Sally" and thanks to their political connections it's only played every 10 feet now(JOKE). But those damned music fans in Europe pledged to stop coming unless they could hear songs they love and know. "Ride, Sally, Ride" still makes bartenders drink, musicians cry and drunk tourists dry hump.

One year ago at "Fare Thee Phil" it cost more to see Pink Talking Fish on StubHub than Kimock, Greene, and Vega's historic afterparty . I don’t feel for a band whose name grew with every possible dollar. I swear one night they were Pink Talking Phish and Bowie is Dead at the same time. Well, like John "CampCougarMelon" or whatever he is calling himself, used to sing "Ain't that America, for you and me..".Now it looks like Little Pink Talking lawsuits for you and me. This is not fact but far from fiction. In the spirit of Pink Talking Fish let's call it an editorial thinkpiece breaking news article. In related funny stuff, I know not everyone are musical nerds like we are but if you're still confused, try to remember Vanilla Ice trying to defend the hook on"Ice,Ice Baby" as original art. He later lost the suit and paid Queen millions. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is I support BMI in every way, when it comes to Pink Talking Fish whose name grows by the dollar. That is theft and borderline creepy. After bankruptcy, I suggest they write original material or go back to being The Phix.

We understand this is a hot topic, hopefully you're reading this because our servers can't keep up with the curiosity.

Zero will Reunite for One Show at Sweetwater

Zero will Reunite for One Show at Sweetwater

On December 29th at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, California one of the most groundbreaking bands you may have never heard will reunite for one show. "Zero" was formed in 1984 by Steve Kimock and Greg Anton and they quickly became the band to see in the Bay Area. They quickly garnered a loyal following including Jerry Garcia.  Steve and Greg will surround themselves with multi -instrumentalist Pete Sears and bass extraordinaire Bobby Vega for the much anticipated show. You can almost guarantee several special guests from the extended Zero family. My only complaint is that it is only one show. But it will be one magical marvel of an evening.
Tickets for the one night reunion  of Zero are on sale now here.

Jackie Greene and Anders Osborne Annouces a series of acoustic shows together

Jackie Greene and Anders Osborne Annouces a series of acoustic shows together

Let's hope this dynamic duo announce more than a pair of dates. These  intimate shows by Jackie Greene and Anders Osborne are being coined"Sitting Around Singing some Songs: An acoustic evening".  They have only confirmed two dates thus far: January 13 at Club Red in Telluride, Co and the 14th at The State Room in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am confident they will announce more shows soon. I am even more sure that if they don't annouce more dates that I will have a pretty drive come January.

A new letter posted on Dweezil Zappa's website invites us to fund his fight against his family

A new letter posted on Dweezil Zappa's website invites us to fund his fight against his family. No thank you! An editoral by Kevin Long

I am getting physical ill with the ongoing fight between Dweezil and his other siblings about the Zappa Family Trust. He released a detailed letter on his website inviting us to fund his legal battle against his own family. If we pledge we will receive music, merchandise and other swag depending on the dollar amount.

Thanks, but no fucking thanks! I don't think it's fair that they are trying to block him from using his own name to perform under.  Do I think it's only about that issue? Hell No! It's about who knows how many years of family bullshit. I have plenty of my own to navigate through for free. If I thought supporting more lawsuits would serve Frank's music or name, I would gladly pledge money.. But instead he gives us a new band name " Dweezil Zappa & the Others of intention". He must know he would not get a dime for that shit show he brought to Red Rocks this summer has a rallying cry to sue his siblings undet. I guess it's just another page turning in what's become the saddest story in music. Here is his letter in full

Kevin Long

Here is Dweezil’s note so you can decide:

In the coming weeks I will be launching a unique crowd funding campaign via Pledge Music. The campaign is as unique as my birth name. In fact the campaign is entirely about my name and how you can help me keep the legal rights to use my own name.

I am inviting everyone to please join me to make some noise and raise funds to propel the necessary legal arguments to secure the rights to continue to use my own name.

How about if we all form a group called “Dweezil Zappa And The Others Of Intention.” By joining and supporting this group via the Pledge Music campaign your voice will be heard alongside my own in the fight against the proposed Federal Trademark of the surname ZAPPA set forth by 2 of my younger siblings that seeks to prevent me from using my own name in the field of music, entertainment and public appearances.

I have used my name in the field of music and entertainment since 1982 and it’s absurd that their proposed Trademark now threatens my ability to continue to legally use my own name.

With your help I will be able to prevail against this personal injustice.

My father once said, “People make a lot of fuss about my kids having such supposedly ‘strange names’. But the fact is that no matter what first names I might have given them, it is the last name that is going to get them in trouble.” (The Real Frank Zappa Book)

On my birth certificate, where it said religion my father personally inscribed “musician” and I wish to continue to honor him through music using my full name Dweezil Zappa. By supporting this campaign you can restore the name given to me by my father.

Are you ready and willing to become an “Other Of Intention”?

Stay tuned for the link to sign up to be the first to hear about all of the downloads, treats and features of the campaign. There will be new music, art and other goodies available.

A huge heartfelt thank you for all your support. DZ

The whole show is a highlight. They encored with "Theme from the bottom" and everything that preceded it is certified hold. The 2001>Maze that opened the second half is especially Phishy. Enjoy!

The Nobel Prize Committee have given up knock knock knocking on Bob Dylan's Door.

The Nobel Prize Committee have given up knock knock,  knocking on Bob Dylan's Door.

According to several reports, including Consequences of Sound, Bob Dylan has not returned the several attempts to get in touch with him by the Nobel Committee.
Committee Secretary Sara Danius recently reported to Sweden’s state radio that the committee has given up on trying to get a hold of Bob Dylan who they just gave one of their most well-known honors.
According to reports by The Guardian they have gotten pleasant responses by those closest to him and that is good enough for now. They fully expect Bobby to be at the ceremony. His “ Never Ending Tour” is taking a break and he has the date free.
I can't say why Bob Dylan has remained silent after winning such a prestigious award. It maybe because the public backlash of him winning the award. I think it's more of a case of Bobby being  himself, obstinate to the end. Either way the answer will remain blowing in the wind.

The Third Night of Phil and Phriends is one of the finest concerts and Best nights of my life. An editorial by Kevin Long

The Third Night of Phil and Phriends is one of the finest concerts and Best nights of my life. An editorial by Kevin Long

The Kevin Long in 1999 had very little responsibility and according to my family, even less ambition. I lived for The Grateful Dead, Phish and Steve Kimock. I had no legal job and all my time was consumed following Phish, Other Ones, S.C.I, KVHW ect. These three historic Phil and Phriend's shows happened quickly, relative to when I heard about them in Memphis, TN. This was 1999 and I was still almost a decade away from meeting the internet. Literally, when I heard about these shows no price or mountain was too high to keep me from my three favorite musical forces combining for three glorious nights at the Warfield. One hell of an expensive plane ticket and still to this day,  the most I ever paid over face value for three tickets and I was there! Something this perfect could not possibly live up to the hype. Phil Lesh, John Molo, Steve Kimock, Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell. Holy Shit! The band members read like a modern day "Derek and The Dominos". Well my friends these fucking concerts took unattainable goals and smashed them.  The first two nights were beyond perfect, they were heavenly. Up to that point it was quite possible the best shows I have ever seen. But we are here to talk about night three.

This band had chemistry from the word "Viola Lee Blue's". Still by the third night it was cosmic! The first set started off with a loose Instrumental "Dark Star". Instantly, you knew the night was going to be "Page-singing "Bird Song" good". The opening sequence of Dark Star> It's Up To You >Days Between >Dark Star(1st verse)> My Favorite Things(Instrumental) is so fucking good I can hardly stand to listen to it. "Kimock should join Phish," I thought to myself since his chemistry with Trey was undeniable. I will not ramble on much more since you can now watch these historical shows. Watching them brought back a flood of the best goddamn memories of my life. On this mystical run, where my three musical worlds joined together to make history. From Terrapins where Phil, Trey and Page trade vocal duties to great ends or a "Down with Disease" that melts flawlessly into "Dark Star"'s, well that would be my ideal afterlife. For three nights life was perfect and you can't put a price tag on that. Thank you to all who were involved in sharing these timeless shows on YouTube. You made this forty one year old remember just how good it got. Watch Below.

"Thank You" to the fans of our work and to our fearless leader, Kevin Long: An editorial by Greg Heffelfinger

From Phish at Dick's to Austin to LA and on to Nashville and Atlanta, keeping up with breaking news and all the shows happening can be tough.

A lot of work and effort goes into making this blog. We have people all over the country who pour a lot of effort into bringing the latest news, set lists and upcoming events to this page. I'm not even including the massive effort that goes into bringing you great photography and reviews so you know what it was like to be there if you couldn't make the event. This also includes turning people onto bands they may never have seen or heard of but are making quality music.
As a recently renewed writer, editor, and general fountain of information, my contributions to the site have increased exponentially lately. I was around when Sammy started the blog previously known as "Phish and the Dead" and then I went AWOL for a few years because of personal issues. When Kevin invited me back, I jumped at the chance to do what I love. I'm a writer, always have been, and if any of you have read my articles you know that I have a tendency to go on and on. Between Kevin and I, the blog has taken off lately and I want to thank all of our fans for that.
However, this past month life and lots of travel have gotten in the way of keeping up my end of the bargain. So I just want to take this time to publicly say thank you to the fans and especially to Kevin Long for his unflagging optimism and boundless energy in making our dreams come true. I'd also like to thank all of our contributors and photographers for all your hard work and let you know how much we appreciate it. Kevin and I used to see the Grateful Dead together and that builds a bond that can be tighter than blood family some times. I'm sure many of you know what I'm talking about. So I just wanted to take this moment of down time I have to let everyone know how much I/we appreciate you. This was just a dream we dreamed a long, long time ago and it's grown into something we are proud of and will continue to do for the love of the music. So, since hopefully, you've gotten this far, it's time to listen to the music play.
