Los Muertos con Queso came to an epic conclusion on Saturday night. Bob Weir returned to perform two powerhouse sets with Billy and his new project. Bob missed Friday nights show with food poisoning and Jackie Greene filled in.
String Cheese Incident started the last night off with two sets of amazing music. "Search" kicked off four magical sets by two bands in paradise. Life does not get much better than it was for the lucky fans on the beach on Saturday. Bobby returned with the fitting opener "Playing in the Band"into "Terrapin Station". That is how the two guest filled sets went. Anthem after jewels into "Brother Essa". The destination concert ended like all events in life should with a "Brokedown Palace". I hope this band gets another chance to shine. I heard a good bit of the streams and color me impressed. The long strange trip just added another musical mile.

Bob Weir performed with most of his camp fire band last night in Cincinnati, OH. The only glaring omission was Steve Kimock who is currently in Japan with his amazing band K I M O C K. The show followed the formula from the "Blue Mountain" tour.
He started the show off acoustic and slowly adds musicians from there. Bobby and the Campfire Band was there for the MusicNOW festival and sounded great. Lisa Hannigan who is scheduled to play at the event joined the band for Peggy-O during the encore. Below is a video and Setlist of last nights festivities.

Philly's Mason Porter and Hezekiah Jones packed the Ardmore Music Hall Saturday Night for a hometown, end-of-year. The End of America opened the proceedings with a well-received set featuring vocal harmony driven rock and Americana.
What made this night extra special was the collaboration between Hezekiah Jones and Mason Porter. There was no break between the bands’ sets.Instead, Hezekiah Jones ended theirswith a strong version of the Grateful Dead's Dark Star, in which they provided the first verse vocals and heady instrumental improvisation
. Then, one by one, the membersof Mason Porter took the stage as Hezekiah Jones slowly departed.Mason Porter seamlessly picked up Dark Star from where Hezekiah left off. MP played on delightingtheir fans with aunique blend of folk, country, bluegrass, and jammycompositions.
Then,Hezekiah Jones crew came back out at the end of the Mason Porter’sset for a string of covers starting with My Morning Jackets "I'm Amazed", followed by a traditional "Dark Hollow", and Hank Williams "I Saw the Light" to close the show.
To no one’s surprise, the audience demanded moreand the musicians delivered with a spirited, sing-a-longversion of Deep Elm Blues.Anotheroutstanding night at the Ardmore Music Hall, where the music never stops.

Jackie Greene played The Warfield last night for the first time as it hosted his hometown birthday show. It has become tradition over the last few years. He always celebrates his birthday with a bunch of talented friends. This year he gave all of us a present when Bobby and Phil shared the stage for only the second time since Fare Thee Phil. Everyone that is familiar with our musical sandbox knows that we love The Kid. He turned 36 and is already a savant. The last few years he has been focusing on his talented career with his band and they never have sounded better. Its tough to turn down the big money, but I have been thrilled he stopped playing hired gun for a bit. Last night besides Bobby Weir and Phil Lesh, Jackie was joined by Jason Crosby, Mark Karan, Ross James and the angelic voice of Nicki Bluhm. His brother Alex Nelson played keys on Scarlett>Fire and quickly it became obvious why he was never invited before tonight. I am only half kidding, he did not make a fool of himself but I don't see the brothers making music together except on holidays.
It was a three magestic sets with my only complaint being the lack of Jackie originals. He played a few, but instead he performed more covers including a tasty "Medicated Goo" that would make any Traffic fan smile. The three sets including an acoustic set and ended with a inspired Grateful Dead set.

As we reported last night Leslie Mendelson sat in with Bob Weir Friday evening. What I did not realize until I read Jambase that Aaron Dessner finally got to play in the band andsat in on guitar as well. Practically the entire show! They were literally five guitarist at times. Here is a audio version thanks to Scott Medeiros. Dead Nation appreciates how fast he gets his shows on achieve. The tour continues for another round at The King Theatre. There is no denying the magic that JRAD posseses. They have transcended what I thought a cover band could accomplish. I think Tom Hamilton's addition in Bobby and Billy's new band is just more validation, but to the band's growing fanbase the verdict has been in for some time. This past weekend at the Brooklyn Bowl for "Fall Ball 2"they pulled off a three night masterpiece. From John Mayer sitting in for a complete set to the near perfect 27 minute acoustic Terrapin Station Suite, this weekend had it all. Thanks to JRAD and Live For Live Music we have the soundboards from all three nights. I know what I will be listening to on my way to work this week.
