8 Bit Civilizations Preview - Jaw dropping 8-bit demo remake of the classic CIV but on the C64!
For 25 years we've all been building empires to stand the test of time. Beginning on Amiga and PC in 1991, it's hard to believe we'd ever see the likes of this epic turn based 4X civ building game on anything less than 16 bits and at least a few hundred kilobytes of RAM. Teased early last year, the game has had a significant amount of work done since the early screenshots. Developer

Latest 2016 SEUCK Compo Entry - Border Blast 3 Review
2016 wasn't all bad news and Brexit... Commodore 64 saw some of its finest releases with the likes of Barnsley Badger, Tiger Claw, and The Bear Essentials giving all of us plenty of reasons to fire up our hardware and emulators. And even those without coding experience are able to get involved, as The New Dimension have even been running another Shootemup Construction Kit (SEUCK) competition.

Fire Breath - Lost in the Attic for 26 years finally released for the C64
Software developer Erik J. Hooijmeijer has released an old title he tried to release in 1990 on his alternative software development website: Ctrl-alt-dev. Sitting in his attic for 26 years, this fully playable platform game - inspired by my two favourite games: Bubble Bobble and Creatures - can be downloaded for free from his website, and not one, not two, but three trained versions from The

Knights of Bytes announced a huge milestone regarding the excellent looking Sam's Journey today. The latest news is they've created 60 level maps and are pushing the capabilities of C64 hardware with the game in its current state. The cutesy and colourful platformer Sam's Journey looks fantastic and we can't wait to check it out for ourselves. You can follow the latest updates on Knights

Goblin Towers - Classic 1980s C64 Text Adventure Release
Text Adventures were many of our first forays into video gaming. Similar to the Adventure stories we would get as books each adventure was usually a unique, and fulfilling story combined with puzzles, traps, loot, and enemies. The latest Genesis Project release on csdb is one such classic adventure game: "Goblin Towers" by Supersoft It features the game's cover art, some hints, a map and

The Sea Voyagers &D - Explore the New World on your old C64 computer
Inspired by an Ebay find, MadMax of Mad Hacker's Incorporated teamed up with Hokuto Force for a new release of The Sea Voyagers (1984). This release adds the game's manual, and comes with a photo of the keyboard overlay, which you'll need to play the game. This is a mainly text based interactive history lesson, don't expect any arcade thrills or pirating glory. But if you've got any interest

R.I.S.K. - Alien busting action on the C64 with a worthy crack!
I wasn't going to mention the game everyone's talking about... Hostile Alien environments, many varied enemies attacking in swarms, negotiating the planet's surfaces with your blaster equipped skimmer. While trying to determine friend from foe. But if "No Man's Sky" had been released in 1987, it might have looked a bit like this...This is R.I.S.K: Rapid Intercept Seek and Kil.
The game's

Raid Over Moscow - 8-bit system classic ported to the Amiga!
In 1985-1986, Access Software and published by US GOLD released the rather difficult but enjoyable action game 'Raid Over Moscow' for the Atari 8-bit, Amstrad CPC, BBC Micro, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum and Apple II during the real life cold war era of the 1980's. But now, thanks to Erik Hogan (AKA Earok from the English Amiga Board) he has set about porting this very popular Commodore 64

Gradius +2DMFGH - Mayday present classic Konami bullet hell SHMUP on the C64
You may have played this sidescrolling shoot-em-up under the game's alternative title: "Nemesis". It was a fairly faithful conversion of Japanese coinop: "Gradius". Mayday have cracked and trained the version featuring its original title. This release features a new title screen, high score saver, new documentation and cheats disabling collisions and infinite lives. Essential if like me,

Warp Drive +3 - Frogs in space for the C64!
Warp Drive is a little known Frogger clone, where instead of a frog, you control a space-ship attempting to traverse a rather congested patch of interstellar highway. Released in 1984 by Computer Applications Inc., Warp Drive has been given a fresh release by The Genesis Project: Including an impressive loading tune, intro, and the assortment of cheats you'd expect. The game features 1 & 2

Workman +5H - Hard labour on the C64
Data-Tronic's Workman by Helge Åkesson has been given a cheat trainer and high score saver by Laxity. Graphically this looks like one of those early charming platform games, like Jet Set Willy... But you'll soon notice after dying multiple times from the first enemy on level 1, that this game is rock hard, and it drops you right in at the deep end. The idea of the game is to collect the
