Tetris Mix - 1980's Tetris classic comes over to the Pico-8 as a first preview!
One of the most popular games of all time was a tile-matching, block rotating puzzle video game first released in 1984 which became a huge hit on the Gameboy in 1989. It just had to be the classic 'Tetris'; a game that caused many people to spend hours playing to the point of addiction. Although we've had numerous clones over the years some of them good and some of them rather bad, today's

Wolfenstein 3D remake now on the Pico-8!
As the 8-bit fantasy console Pico-8 gets improvements to its engine, people are pushing its boundaries more and more. As a result, more and more raycasting demos and games are coming out of the woodwork. As well as a Duke Nukem 3D demake/demo, is a WIP of the granddaddy of them all, Wolfenstein 3D, which many will recognise as the starting point for the whole First Person Shooter genre.

But when it comes to this gem of a Pico-8 game which is also playable in your browser, it is a rather special breed indeed. This is a demake of the classic 1990's SNES game ' Star Fox/Star Wing ', developed by electricgryphon for the Pico-8 and renamed as ' PicoFox '! It has 3 levels

We Missed You! - Have you ever wanted to play as a Hermes driver? Now you can!
Something for everyone today as a new Pico-8 game caught my eye and puts you in control of a courier van out to cause as much carnage as possible before making a delivery. Titled as ' We Missed You! ' and developed by Rhys for the LD33, you must smash your way through the town to deliver a package, but this must be done when the person is at work or when they are not looking. So basically the

PIC-Oh Mummy! - Classic 8bit game comes to the Pico-8 with a difference!
One of my favourite Amstrad games ' Oh Mummy! ' has surfaced again, and this time on the Pico-8 as PIC-Oh Mummy! developed by Hokutoy, but in his own style. Oh Mummy in my opinion was and still is one of the best games on the Amstrad from 1984 and it was created by Gem Software and published by none other than Amsoft, a well known publisher for the Amstrad computer. It had fun gameplay
PAT Shooter - A chaotic blaster for pico-8 and PC
Back to the Pico-8 games today and this one is called PAT Shooter, developed by Benjamin Soulé. A rather old game compared to the more recent ones we've been featuring, you play as a tiny space ship that has to destroy many waves of enemies for an ever high score or you'll end up dying and having to start all over again. Not only is this game available on the Pico-8 but you can play it in your

Undercopter - Cave exploring with a depleting fuel supply
It's damp, chilly and wet outside so what better way to spend the day than inside playing some free games. This is ' Undercopter ' by Xanthus, a remade game for the Pico8 whereby you are piloting a tiny green helicopter deep underground in a very large cave system. Your task? To survive and collect everything before your fuel supply runs out for a high score. Just be careful of enemies while

They Started It - Pico-8's most 'juiced' vertical shooter
They Started It, is a frantic Pico-8 shooter from BBS member joeyspacerocks. Part space invaders part galaga, all action and sensory overload - this shooter delivers fast paced, wave based shoot em up fun in spades.
The current version has a nice difficulty curve with the first wave easing you in gently but soon ramps up as enemies with a higher hit count appear and with better weapons

194-8 - Arcade inspired shoot em up available for the Pico-8!
Some more Pico-8 news today and one that is closely inspired by the shoot em up '1942' by Capcom released in 1984, is the latest version 1.0 of 194-8 by LeDjinn for the Pico-8 and your PC playable in a browser. In this game you pilot a green plane with a gun and a powerful beam weapon, that has to destroy many waves of enemies to reach and destroy the end boss for a level completion. Just be

PocketCHIP Hardware Review - The perfect handheld retrogaming device?
Back in May last year, NextThingCo were making headlines with their kickstarter for a $9 computer called CHIP. Similar to a Raspberry Pi A+ but with added features and cheaper to boot. What was overlooked by most was one of the extra backer reward tiers of an add on peripheral called PocketCHIP. The campaign hinted at PocketCHIP's potential but it wasn't until the announcement that it would

Pico Monsters - Pokemon meets the Pico-8 by hcnt!
Another day another Pico-8 game and this time we are grabbing that Nintendo classic Pokemon changing it around and releasing it on the Pico-8 as ' Pico Monsters ' developed by hcnt. But before you get too excited this isn't a full conversion of Pokemon but a pokemon-esque jrpg, that features picostops, monsters, people to talk to and a chippy little soundtrack.
True to form just as in that

Invader Overload - Space Invaders just became even more wicked on the Pico-8!
Now here's a blast from the past, a game based on probably the oldest mentioned game on our site ' Space Invaders '. Released in 1978 as an arcade shooter developed by Tomohiro Nishikado, your task was to defeat waves of aliens and earn as many points as possible, while trying to avoid being shot at or touched by the slowly lowering waves. This game however ' Invader Overload ' which is based
